Concluded: xbio Biomedical Enterprise Masterclass
Vienna, June 22nd – With the successful conclusion of this year’s xbio Biotech Enterprise Masterclass, Vienna’s life science ecosystem, led by XISTA and the University of Vienna, is sending a clear signal about the future of biomedical entrepreneurship. The program wrapped up its intensive semester with a high-stakes Demo Day on June 22nd, accelerating a new wave of deep-tech innovations and preparing a highly selective cohort of future science-founders to turn their ideas into viable biomedical businesses.
“Vienna has an extraordinary wealth of life science research. Through xbio, we are specifically pooling Austrias top-tier institutions to provide academic talent with the commercial know-how, IP strategies, and direct access to experts needed to take the first steps in building resilient science ventures,” states the xbio Organisation Committee.
The 2026 Cohort
The demand for xbio remains high. In 2026, the masterclass received roughly 40 competitive applications from across the scientific landscape, ultimately selecting only the top half to enter the program.
The final 2026 batch featured 21 aspiring biomedical future-founders representing 9 partner institutions. The cohort engaged in an intensive kickoff weekend followed by a total of 16 comprehensive theory sessions spanning the semester, covering subjects such as IP, leadership development, and life-science business models.
Expanding the xbio Network
To drive this acceleration forward, xbio has drastically expanded its ecosystem infrastructure this year. Alongside the loyal return of all legacy supporters, the network welcomed powerful new alliances:
- AITHYRA has joined as a full strategic partner.
- University of Innsbruck and the University for Continuing Education Krems have successfully joined for an initial trial period.
- Boehringer Ingelheim stepped up as a key sponsor, marking a significant milestone for corporate-backed translation.
Celebrating xbio Demo Day 2026
The program culminated in a high-stakes finale at the xbio Demo Day, where 8 standout projects pitched their ventures live before a demanding panel of industry heavyweights and VCs: Peter Nussbaumer (LDC, KHAN II VC), Guido Gualdoni (Epitome Therapeutics), and Mark Pearson (Boehringer Ingelheim).
Following world-class presentations, the jury recognized three exceptional innovators:
- First Place: Lavinia Ceci Ginistrelli – Awarded a Young Innovator Ticket to BIO-Europe in Cologne, courtesy of LISAvienna.
- Second Place: Tayebeh Saghaei – Awarded an exclusive executive business coaching session, courtesy of AOP Health.
- Third Place: Krishnaraj Narayanaswamy – Specially recognized for outstanding pitch delivery and compelling storytelling.
As the 2026 cohort transitions into the global startup landscape, the committee is already gearing up for xbio 2027 to unlock the next frontier of European biotech.
