xbio expands nationwide
connecting over a dozen research institutions across Austria
Partners included ISTA, the University of Vienna, TU Wien, MedUni Graz, and CeMM. Each year, around 24 participants join to explore how their scientific discoveries can translate into biotech and medtech ventures.
The curriculum combines business planning, IP and regulatory insights, investment readiness, and pitch training. Since 2023, over 60 alumni have completed the programme, leading to startup formations and national recognition.
At this year’s Best of Biotech (aws BoB 2025), two xbio teams received top awards:
BetterStrains in the Biotech Ideator category, and Syntropic Medical in the Medtech Start-up category ,underscoring xbio’s growing role as a launchpad for research-driven entrepreneurship in Austria.
